2014 Disabled Veterans Controlled Moose Lottery

The State of Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management are pleased to announce the 2014 Disabled Veterans' Controlled Moose Hunt Lottery. We are very pleased that Dave Hentosh of Smoldering Lake Outfitters and Paul House of House in the Woods Military and Family Retreat and their friends will return this year as guides for the disabled veterans.

The State of Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has allocated moose hunting permits to disabled veterans to participate in the Controlled Moose Hunt in Aroostook County. Because of the number of permits we have this year there will be three hunts; one in August and two in September and they will take place on farm land specified by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. This hunt is not like the regular moose lottery as it requires each hunter to have a registered Maine Guide that has specific training for the controlled moose hunt. The Bureau of Veterans' Services is working with sponsors to reduce the cost of the hunt for Maine veterans. There may be a cost for the hunt depending on the amount money raised through sponsors. More information about the Controlled Moose Hunt can be found on Inland Fisheries & Wildlife's website at:
