RE: Verification of Proper Certification
DATE: March 24, 2003
Enclosed please find reports of individuals who are reported to be employed in your school unit, but appear to be improperly certified for the positions they hold. The information for this list was compiled from both the staff information forms (EF-M-15) filed by your unit and the Department’s certification files.
There may be discrepancies in social security numbers, inaccurate reporting, or other errors. For your assistance, we have included a handout describing how to interpret the enclosed reports. Inaccurate reporting may be for a grade 7 or 8 teacher. A grade 7 or 8 teacher employed under an elementary endorsement (020) may be reported as teaching the specific grade or “ME” for multiple elementary. If a grade 7 or 8 teacher is employed under a secondary or middle level endorsement, the teacher should be reported as teaching Grade 7 (07) or Grade 8 (08), not “ME.”
After review of each possible violation, determine the cause. If the problem is a result of incorrect or misreported data on the staff information form (EF-M-15), contact Ruth Sherman at 207-624-6790 for resolution. If the problem is a result of incorrect or misreported data in the certification files, contact the Certification Office at 207-624-6603.
Please make these contacts on or before May 2, 2003. It will also expedite matters if you designate one contact person rather than having each employee call the Department.
Thank you for your cooperation in this very important matter.
