INFORMATIONAL LETTER: 57
TO: Superintendents of Schools FROM: Susan A. Gendron, Commissioner DATE: December 20, 2006 SUBJECT: No Child Left Behind Act District Report Card Requirements I am writing to update you on the resources available to you for creating the State and local school district report cards required by the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) under Section 1111(h). This letter updates Informational Letter #118 issued on April 26, 2005. The Maine Department of Education has posted, as of November 28, 2006 and will update, on a continuous basis, the required State information on Maine’s No Child Left Behind website at http://www.maine.gov/education/nclb/reportcard/index.html. This site will provide the most current information available and will provide links to the Maine Educational Assessment data, the NCLB Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) Report, and Teacher Quality Data to assist you in preparing the SAU level and school level reports. It is recommended that you review the Report Card requirements against the data you currently distribute to ensure that your SAU and school report cards are complete. The U. S. Department of Education has posted Non-Regulatory Guidance at http://www.ed.gov/programs/titleiparta/reportcardsguidance.doc. Included in this document are sample templates that you may use, or you may wish to develop your own format. The following websites contain documentation and data needed to prepare the SAU and school level reports. Highly Qualified Teachers and Paraprofessionals (HQTP), www.maine.gov/education/hqtp/ Maine Educational Data Management System (MEDMS) Public Reports Portal, https://www.medms.maine.gov/medms%5Fpublic/ReportPortal/Portal.aspx?CurrentLocation=%2fPublic+Reports%2fNo+Child+Left+Behind The NCLB 2006-2007 monitoring process will include the following review:
The NCLB Team will ask the SAU to provide a copy of the report card, as required by (Section 1111(h)(1)(C) and (2)(B) of NCLB. The NCLB Team will also ask how these documents were made available and how the results were publicized. Please contact the Maine NCLB Clearinghouse at 624-6705 if you have questions regarding this requirement.
