TO:                 Superintendents of Schools

RE:                 Informational Meetings on the Education Portion of the Governor’s  Budget Proposal

     The Governor’s budget, to be presented on January 5, 2007, will include a proposal for educational administrative restructuring aimed at excellence in education in every classroom for every student.

     Please join me in any of the following events I have scheduled to discuss these initiatives with you and to answer questions that you may have:

  • Monday, January 8, 2007:  An ATM Live Broadcast is scheduled for 3:00 PM originating from Augusta.  The broadcast can be viewed at any ATM site. Those who wish to view the event can confirm the availability of the closest site by contacting the site coordinator.  A listing of ATM sites is available at the web site www.mainedistancelearningproject.org.  A database can be found at the “MDLP Resources” link under “Site Information.”  An Excel spread sheet lists the contact information. The primary site contacts are listed in bold.

  • Wednesday, January 10, 2007:  An interactive conference call is scheduled from Noon to 1:00 PM.  If you need the number to participate in the conference call please contact the Commissioner's office at 624-6600 or email georgette.valliere@maine.gov.

  • January 11, 2007:  I will also be sharing information and can answer questions at the Superintendents Convocation on Thursday, January 11, 2007.

     In addition, we will be posting information, including answers to questions you may have, on the state Department of Education website, starting Monday, January 8, 2007; you can also send in questions via the website.  The web link for this information will be: http://ww.maine.gov/education/governorsproposal/

     I look forward to these initial conversations and to continuing the conversation with you in various venues and by varied means in the coming weeks and months.
