Sponsorship
of an annual ESL institute covering requirements
of the ESL and/or Bilingual education endorsement
circulation
of esl resource materials to schools, especially
student
assessment tools
disbursement
of state and federal subsidies and grants to schools
distribution
and training for the 2000 ESL/Maine Learning
Results
Toolkit
annual
collection and disaggregation of data by school
district
on enrollments and academic resources available to
limited english proficient students
advocacy
for school-age students of limited english
proficiency
through advisement to administrators as well as
representation on a wide range of councils and task forces
seeking ESL/BE perspectives
presentations
on esl/BE at workshops, conferences, institutes
statewide,
regionally, and nationally
publication
of occasional papers and policies of
the Maine
Department
of Education as they impact students of limited
english proficiency
Occasional
programs designed statewide for students of

English proficiency and refugees such as summer
retreats and co-sponsorship of events organized by schools
and non-profit organizations
