The mission of the Portland Street Academy is to assure that homeless youth have free access to an appropriate public education and training that will successfully meet their education and employment needs.  Some of the services that they supply are:

 

~Assistance in enrolling in school of choice or other educational programs within the community

~ Advocacy to reduce the barriers that homeless youth encounter while pursuing their educational goals

~ Coordination of travel

~ Preparation for the General Educational Development Exam (GED)

~ Support in job attainment, survival, and success

~ Career exploration and guidance

~ Planning for all aspects of college including; SAT prep, choosing a college, applications, financial aid, scholarships, and fee waivers

~Academic Assessment in Reading and Math

~Tutoring

~ Multi-sensory reading

~Photo Identification

MerryMeeting Project

The mission of the Merrymeeting Project is to establish a viable community network which recognizes and serves the needs of homeless and at-risk youth by developing and utilizing creative flexible resources.  Some of the services that they provide for youth are:

~Advocacy towards the educational rights of homeless youth as outlined under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act

~Support with all education plans including enrollment in high school, vocational programs, GED, night school, or tutoring opportunities

~Short term transitional case management for homeless and at-risk youth that may involve assistance with meal services, medical coverage, housing subsidies, admission to shelters, or transitional living programs

~ A safe quiet place to talk

~Connection with health,recreation, individual counseling, or family mediation services

~ Transportation assistance for work, appointments, recreational activities

~Assistance with employment and resume writing

~Support in legal proceedings

Mission:
The mission of the ACE Program is to provide practical life skills related to education and employment to youth experiencing homelessness or in transition. An alternative education model will provide life skills that will allow students to form the foundation needed for continued vocational and educational success.

Different services that are offered are:

~GED prep/tutoring
~ Information on Adult Ed programs
~Assistance with high school entrance or re-entrance ~College/tech school planning and visits, and any other educational help that may be needed They also provide services in employment such as:
~ Job skills/interview training
~Resume/job application assistance
~ Career assessment
