Narrative Summary of Student Performance
October 25, 2001
The following summary statements describe the percent of
students who Partially Meet, Meet, or Exceed the performance standards for the
Maine Educational Assessment (MEA) given in the 2000 – 20001 school year:
- English Language Arts assessment
in reading demonstrates
consistently strong student performance across the three-year period. In
the 2001 school year, ninety-two percent (92 %) of fourth grade students
score at or above the Partially Meets standards level with 49% scoring at
or above Meets standards.
Eighty-nine percent (89%) of eighth grade students score at or
above Partially Meets the standards with 41% scoring at or above Meets the
standards. Ninety-five percent
(95%) of students at grade 11 score at or above Partially Meets the
standards with 52% of students scoring at or above Meets the standards.
- English Language Arts assessment
in writing shows increasing
percentages of students at grades eight and eleven scoring at Meets the
standards. In the 2001 school year
89% of eighth grade students scored at or above Partially Meets the
standards with 39 % of students at or above Meets the standards. In grade
eleven, 91% students scored at or above the Partially Meets the standards
with 41 % scoring at or above the Meets the standards. While grade 8 and
11 performance has shown gains each year, grade 4 student performance has
varied. In the 2001 school year,
78% of grade four scored at or above Partially Meets the standards with
11% scoring at or above Meets the standards.
- Mathematics assessment for the
2001 school year shows 77% of grade four students scoring at or above
Partially Meets the standards with 23% of students scoring at or above
Meets the standards. In grade
eight, 64% of students score at or above Partially Meets the standards
with 20% of students scoring at or above Meets the standards. In grade eleven, 62% of students score
at or above Partially Meets the standards with 23% scoring at or above the
Meets the standard.
- Science and Technology assessments
for the 2001 school year shows 72% of fourth grade students scoring at or
above Partially Meets the standards with 4% scoring at or above Meets the
standard. In grade eight 71% of
students score at or above Partially Meets the standards with 17% scoring
at or above Meets the standards.
In grade eleven 72% of students score at or above Partially Meets
the standards with 8% scoring at or above Meets the standards.
- Social Studies assessments for the
2001 school year shows 87% of grade four students scoring at or above the
Partially Meets the standards with 30% of the students scoring at or above
Meets the standards. In grade
eight, 81% of the students scored at or above Partially Meets the
standards with 27% of the students scoring at or above Meets the
standards. In grade eleven, 71% of
students scored at or above Partially Meets the standards with 22% of
students scoring at or above Meets the standards.
- Health Education assessment for
the 2001 school year shows 95% of fourth grade students scoring at or
above Partially Meets the standards level with 29% of students scoring at
or above the Meets the standards level.
In grade eight 98% of students scored at or above Partially Meets
the standards level with 38% of students scoring at or above Meets the
standards level. In grade eleven
96% of students scored at or above Partially Meets the standards level
with 31% of students scoring at or above Meets the standards.
- Visual and Performing Arts assessment
for the 2001 school year shows 77% of grade four students scoring at or
above the Partially Meets the standards level with 27% of students scoring
at or above the Meets the standards level. In grade eight 71% of students scored at or above the Partially
Meets the standards level with 30% of students scoring at or above Meets
the standards. In grade eleven 62% of students scored at or above the
Partially Meets the standards level with 25% of students scoring at or
above Meets the standards.
