Maine's Early Intervention Certification Process

As a part of the process to increase the number of qualified, credentialed personnel working with children birth through five through the CDS system information about these changes and the process for becoming appropriated credentialed is necessary. In addition to other forms of education and communication, this web page will serve as an additional resource for information to providers and families.

For all other questions regarding certification, please contact the Certification Office at 207-624-6603.

Important!

Certification required to provide developmental therapy or specialized instruction to Maine children:

  • All personnel providing Developmental Therapy / special instruction / special education through Child Development Services (CDS) must be appropriately credentialed by the Maine Department of Education. This means that all personnel must either have a teacher certification or an educational technician authorization.

  • As a first step all personnel who are providing or who wish to provide developmental therapy must apply to the Maine Department of Education Certification Office. It is important to do this now- don't delay!
