Provide a concise statement that describes your organization:
Connections Academy, LLC is proud to propose a top-quality, highly robust online learning program for students and districts in the state of Maine. Each Connections Academy’s “public school-tested” online course consists of rigorous curriculum that integrates the best in online resources; Connections Academy’s all-inclusive, proprietary Learning Management System (LMS) developed specifically for use in K–12 education; and top-quality, certified online teachers equipped to bring out the best in each learner. The entire Connections Academy program is standards-aligned, available 24/7, and proven effective for the entire range of learners. Connections Academy currently serves more than 320,000 semester course enrollments nationally, and has been selected by several states and multiple districts as the primary provider of online learning services. Most importantly, our program has demonstrated excellent academic results. For example, on the Advanced Placement tests, 78% of students using the Connections Academy curriculum scored 3 or higher – compared with 57% of students nationally. Students do equally well on state standardized tests: as a case in point, Connections Academy students' aggregate Reading/Language Arts test scores for 2008-09 across all tested grades exceeded the state aggregate in 100% of the states where a Connections Academy school has been operating for two or more years. (Test scores for 2009-2010 are still preliminary since not all states have reported.) Annual satisfaction surveys conducted by a third-party research firm shows that 96% of users rate the Connections Academy curriculum to be of high quality, and 94% would recommend the program to others.

Each state-based Connections Academy program has also been accredited by its regional accreditors, which include the North Central Association, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, MSA, and NAAS. All of our AP® courses have received College Board approval.
Describe the pre-service and in-service training in online methodology provided to your organization’s teachers.
All of Connections Academy school staff hold the certifications and credentials required for the subjects they teach, and many have advanced degrees. In addition, all teachers complete an extensive online teacher orientation course with lessons, assessments, and links to tutorials. This orientation must be completed within 30 days of employment with an overall score of 80% or higher. Teachers also take part in a returning teacher orientation, as well as on-going handbook training courses, tutorial sessions with guest experts, and monthly sessions on varying online topics. Lastly, teachers may take company-paid graduate courses with our partner, American Public University.
Briefly describe the course offerings available from your organization:
The platform for organizing and managing the entire Connections Academy educational environment is the Learning Management System (LMS). This proprietary, Web-based software delivers every assignment and tracks every activity, monitoring the completion of individual lessons as well as mastery of discrete skills and knowledge, and houses all student information. The LMS operates within a secure, robust technology infrastructure while maintaining a safe environment in which students and teachers can interact with each other. Students, teachers, and administrators have 24/7 access to information on grades, courses, schedules, contact information, and technical support.
