Lincoln National Academy is a fully accredited online high school that combines Class.com's high-quality curriculum with exceptional instruction to help schools augment course offerings and give students exciting online learning opportunities. LNA's highly qualified online teachers and administrators offer courses for credit recovery or original credit, fill gaps in teacher availability, solve scheduling conflicts, and much more.

Class.com founded Lincoln National Academy in 2011 after several years of offering online teachers with online its courseware. Class.com was established as the final step in the CLASS (Communications Learning and Assessment in a Student-centered System) Project, a multimillion Star Schools research grant and has been delivering research-based online learning solutions throughout the county since 1999. LNA’s approach to online teaching and learning emerged from more than a decade of experience creating Web-based courses and building successful online learning programs.

Like Class.com, LNA’s online learning program evolved from research. Class.com and Lincoln National Academy delivered instruction and courseware for the Virtual Algebra Study, a research study funded by the federal U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Educational Sciences and conducted by Regional Educational Laboratory-Northeast and Island. The study examined the effects of offering online algebra to eighth graders in rural Maine and Vermont middle schools and found that students enrolled in LNA’s Algebra I course tested higher on a test of algebra knowledge and were found to be twice as likely to participate in an advanced math courses than their peers who were not enrolled.

Lincoln National Academy is accredited by AdvancED- as a North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) school. Our core courses have been approved by National Collegiate Athletics Association Eligibility Center as meeting the requirements for establishing the initial-eligibility certification status for college-bound high school athletes.

Describe the pre-service and in-service training in online methodology provided to your organization’s teachers:
LNA teachers have at least three years online and five years general teaching experience, and are endorsed in the subject area they teach. Before they begin teaching for LNA, they must participate in training. A day-long session provides teachers with specific expectations that include approved communication methods and effective online instruction techniques. Teachers learn to use the courseware with confidence and to transfer classroom teaching skills to an online environment.

Administrators conduct ongoing performance evaluations with meaningful and regular feedback. Follow-up webinars on advanced topics and online teaching techniques are offered. Monthly teacher meetings and a website for sharing resources allows teachers to collaborate and learn from each other.

Briefly describe the course offerings available from your organization:
Lincoln National Academy offers more than 100 semester-length core and elective high school courses. Courses have been developed by multidisciplinary teams of classroom teachers, subject-matter experts, instructional designers, multimedia developers, and software engineers who integrate best practices in website design and instructional design with content standards into courses that are the equivalent of 700-900 printed pages of content per semester. Instructional designers carefully weave more than 2,750 media elements, including interactive animations, images, video, and audio into each courses, creating a seamless learning environment with direct instruction, frequent feedback, guided and independent practice, and a variety of assessment.

Teachers are employed by Lincoln National Academy on a part-time basis with student-to-teacher ratios not to exceed 75:1. Since its inception, LNA has delivered nearly 3,000 supplementary online courses with a pass of 87%.
