Welcome to the Home Page of the Maine Department of Education.

When it comes to education, Maine is, indeed, on the move. As Education Week’s "Quality Counts" assessment of America’s schools indicated, Maine could rest on its laurels. After all, the achievement of our students in mathematics, science, and reading puts Maine at the top of the nation. But our state has chosen to set high expectations for its public school system. Indeed, we are committed to continuous improvement.

As we redesign the educational system in Maine to be centered around high standards for learning for all of our students, accompanied by a comprehensive system of assessment, this Home Page will be an important communication link to keep you informed of new initiatives, public policy development, and Maine Department of Education services and personnel.

communities as we work collaboratively to offer our students the best possible opportunities to learn.
