For Lobbyists

Maine's lobbyist disclosure program is administered by the Ethics Commission. Every lobbyist in Maine must file a joint registration with each of the lobbyist's employers (clients) after lobbying more than eight (8) hours in a calendar month on behalf of that client. Once registered, every lobbyist must also file monthly reports detailing the lobbyist's activities during that month and recording any compensation received, or expenditures made, for lobbying. After the legislative session is completed, the lobbyist may request a waiver of the requirement to file monthly reports.

The Commission maintains lists of registered lobbyists, lobbyist compensation, and state employee legislative designees.

Maine law also contains restrictions on lobbyists' campaign contributions and gifts to Legislators.

For more information on these requirements, please read the Lobbyist Guidebook and Lobbyist Disclosure Law or telephone the Ethics Commission at (207) 287-4179.
