This presentation will share methods and modeling from RMI, assessing the impact of local, regional, and state zoning codes to guide housing where its most needed and most likely to reduce emissions while making other climate action investments go much farther. Countless cities and states across the U.S. are reforming land use regulations that impede housing production. But precisely estimating the climate, equity, economic development, and public health impact of such reform is challenging – as is communicating it in ways that speak to the variety of stakeholders it takes to build support and successfully implement such policies. Presenter Anna Zetkulic is an urban planner specializing in decarbonizing transportation and building systems through location efficiency and electrification, as well as shifting public and private investments away from infrastructure that exclusively serves single passenger vehicles. She crafts and implements climate action projects and policy in partnership with mobility and housing advocates, environmental justice groups, local and state governments, financial institutions, developers, and other built environment stakeholders. Beyond assessing zoning’s impact on emissions, housing affordability, and municipal income versus public service, Anna’s work at RMI also focuses on expanding electric micro, shared and commercial fleets and solving for no-home charging.
