DOT interest in editing hydro

The MDOT enquired about the possibility of participating in the Hydro SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) and edit hydro features within the hydro database. As MDOT staff edits their roadsdata they discover discrepancies between the hydro and the orthophotography.MDOT is willing to edit the hydro so that they match the orthos as they discover the discrepancies.

After much discussion it was agreed that the subcommittee would like to incorporate MDOT’s hydro editing into the Hydro SOP. There are many technical and procedural issues that will need to be resolved:

Editing of features that are connected to other hydro features – how much should be edited?
Should features be split to accommodate Feature Level Metadata so that different sources are recognized?
Should closures be added when a feature is edited so that the feature no longer connects to adjacent features?

Procedures and standards for digitizing hydro features from orthos?

Hydro linear referencing

MDEP is interested in adding unique ids on the hydro network that could be used for linear referencing.MDEP is required by law to produce data for water classifications.

MDEP would like to be able to use a linear referencing system in SDE to produce the water classification data. The unique ids could also be used for other applications. If possible, the subcommittee would like to use the unique ids from the NHD data that is being created but the NHD has not been completed for the entire state and it still might be a while before the entire state is completed.

NRCS HUC revisions

NRCS had contacted Mike Smith at the MDEP asking if Mike knew anybody that would be willing to work with NRCS for updating and maintaining the NRCS Maine watersheds data.Mike and Vicki expressed an interest in working with NRCS.
