Energy Programs for BusinessesEfficiency Maine Business ProgramEfficiency Maine/ Public Utilities Commission The Efficiency Maine Business Program has new prescriptive cash incentives, effective 2/1/07, on qualified lighting, HVAC equipment, NEMA PremiumŪ energy efficient motors, system controls and new in 2007, refrigeration. Multifamily Home Energy Loan ProgramMaine State Housing Authority MaineHousing’s Multifamily Home Energy Loan Program (Multifamily HELP) offers 4.75% fixed rate financing to improve the energy efficiency of eligible affordable housing developments and reduce project operating costs. Property owners who make improvements identified in an energy audit may reduce energy consumption by 15-20% annually. This program is currently offered only to multifamily housing owners within MaineHousing’s portfolio. Visit the Multifamily Home Energy Loan Program site. Small Business Energy Audit ProgramEfficiency Maine/ Public Utilities Commission Free walk-through energy audits for small to medium sized commercial, non-profit, and manufacturing facilities resulting in possible energy savings, with accompanying cost and waste reductions. Alternative Fuel Refueling Infrastructure Tax CreditMaine Revenue Services A tax credit is offered for the construction or installation of, or improvements to, any refueling or charging station for the purposes of providing clean fuels to the general public for motor vehicles. The tax credit is equivalent to 25% of the expenditures and, although the tax can’t be reduced below zero, any unused credits may be carried over until used. Small Business Low Interest Loan ProgramEfficiency Maine/ Public Utilities Commission A loan program providing loans up to $250,000 currently at 3% interest to small businesses to fund MPUC approved energy conservation measures. The Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) assists Efficiency Maine with the management of this program by providing a credit analysis, and preparing loan documents. Funding, disbursement and repayment of loans are all processed through Efficiency Maine. Visit the Small Business Low Interest Loan Program site. Building Operator Certification ProgramEfficiency Maine/ Public Utilities Commission Efficiency Maine will help you reduce the energy consumption of your building. Electricity use in commercial and government buildings can be cut by 20 percent or more when building operators manage and maintain their structures and building systems more effectively. Building Operator Certification is a nationally recognized training program designed to educate facilities personnel in the energy and resource efficient operation and maintenance of building systems. Biofuels Production IncentiveMaine Revenue Services A taxpayer may claim this state income tax credit for the commercial production of biofuels as a substitute for liquid fuels. Blended biofuels with non-biofuels may be eligible, but only for the biofuel portion. Unused credits may carry over for the following 10 years. Visit the Biofuels Production Incentive site. Economic Recovery Loan ProgramFinance Authority of Maine The interest rate on all new Economic Recovery Loan Program loans will be reduced from Prime + 2% to Prime, which currently is set at 5.25%. Energy Conservation Loan ProgramFinance Authority of Maine The Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC) and FAME have partnered to make energy conservation funds more available to Maine’s small businesses. $1,000,000 of funds has been designated for energy conservation loans for small businesses to improve energy efficiency.
