ATV Law Enforcement Grants

Summary of Grant and Aid ProgramAs a result of legislation passed during the 121st Maine State Legislature, L.D. 1912 was enacted. This law addressed the use of ATVs. The popularity of ATVs in the state of Maine has increased greatly in recent years. As a result the number of issues pertaining to ATV use have also risen, and consequently, so has the need for more ATV law enforcement. In addition to addressing ATV violations, L.D. 1912 provides for the ATV Enforcement Grant and Aid Program. Grants from the program are intended to maintain, improve, and expand ATV enforcement and training for state, county, and municipal enforcement officers. Grants are available for three different project types: General ATV Enforcement, Multi-Jurisdictional Enforcement, and Training & Equipment. A grant review committee, established for this purpose, will make grants to law enforcement agencies for projects that are consistent with the criteria (please see below for criteria). The funding for this program is provided from gas tax dollars. Criteria to be met:
