Draft State of Maine Open Water and Ice Fishing Law Book and Rulemaking Proposals

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is providing for public comment the draft fishing law book which covers the period April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2012. This draft law book is the culmination of 18 months of work that has combined the open water and ice fishing law books and attempts to provide more angling opportunities throughout the year. This draft law book contains all general law and water specific regulations. Maps and public information pages, examples which can be found in past law books, will be added prior to publication.

We hope that anglers will take a little time to review the draft law book (below), and provide us with their feedback. We encourage anglers to find a few waters they like to fish and let us know if it easy or difficult in finding the season dates, regulations and bag limits for these waters, as well as sending along any suggestions to make the book more “user friendly”.
