Maine Ice Fishing Laws and Rules - Piscataquis County

The following laws and rules are effective from ice-in 2007 to March 31, 2009.

Piscataquis County

To Use This Piscataquis County Section - Look for the name of the water you wish to fish. If it is NOT LISTED, it is CLOSED to all ice fishing.

If the water you wish to fish IS LISTED, the letter code in bold print will direct you to the rules which are in effect. The meanings of the letter codes are as follows:

A: Open to ice fishing for all fish from the time ice forms in the fall through March 31.

B: Closed to fishing until January 1 and then open to ice fishing for all fish from January 1 through March 31.

S: Special regulation(s) in effect. (Note: Special regulations may restrict the general provisions set forth for A and B waters.) See Special Regulations (S-Codes), listed at the bottom of this page.

Abbee Pond, Brownville. A

Allagash Lake, T7&8R14. Open to fishing for all fish during the month of February only. S-4, S-8, (except that 5 lines may be used from sunset to sunrise while fishing for cusk), S-16. Minimum length limit on whitefish: 16 inches. The use of motorized equipment is prohibited.

Closed area: that portion from the mouth of Allagash Stream out to a straight line between two red markers, one set on the southwest shore near the Upper Crows Nest campsite, the other set on the northeast shore at the intersection of the T7R13/T8R13 township line with the lakeshore.

Chesuncook Lake, T3&4R12, T4&5R13. B. Minimum length limit on landlocked salmon: 14 inches except that only 1 may exceed 18 inches. Daily bag limit on landlocked salmon 3 fish.

Moosehead Lake. B, S-1, S-13, S-21. Daily bag limit: 2 togue over 18 inches. No size or bag limit on togue less than 18 inches. Closed to the taking of landlocked salmon until February 15: then S-22; minimum length limit on landlocked salmon: 18 inches. Prior to February 15, all landlocked salmon caught must be released alive without removing the fish from the water. CLOSED AREAS: That portion known as Spencer Bay; that portion from the mouth of Tomhegan Stream to a straight line between 2 red markers, 1 set on the small point of land on the north shore of Tomhegan Cove approximately 1/2 mile from the mouth of Tomhegan Stream, the other set on the small point of land on the south shore of Tomehegan Cove approximately 3/4 mile from the mouth of Tomhegan Stream; that portion from the mouth of Moose Brook to a straight line between 2 red markers, 1 set at the south shore of Moose Brook Cove; the other on the north shore of Moose Brook Cove on a line passing inside the islands in Moose Brook Cove; that portion from the mouth of Socatean Stream to a straight line between 2 red markers, one set on the northerly shore of Socatean Bay at the camp site known as the Ledges, the other set on the westerly shore of Socatean Bay on a line passing just outside Wiggin’s Island; that portion from the mouth of Williams Brook in Big W Township to a straight line between 2 red markers, one set on the land of Hermon Brautigan on the south shore of Williams Cove and the other in a northeasterly direction on the opposite shore, Piscataquis County; that portion inside of the red markers located at the mouth of Moose River.
