Maine Warden Service Recovers Body of Missing Connecticut Snowmobiler

Millinocket – The Maine Warden Service this morning recovered the body of a Connecticut man who went out snowmobiling Monday night on North Twin Lake and was reported missing a couple of hours later.

Edward Tessman, 42, of East Haven, Conn., was found at 9:29 a.m. in approximately 14 feet of water. His body was 264 feet east of where his sled was located Tuesday afternoon, according to Warden Andy Glidden, lead investigator in the search.

Mr. Tessman’s family has been notified. He will be transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta for an autopsy.

Eleven snowmobilers have died in incidents this season.

The search for Mr. Tessman began around midnight Monday when the Maine Warden Service was contacted by concerned family members who feared he was lost.  It was raining and foggy Monday night and Tuesday on North Twin Lake, where Mr. Tessman’s family has a camp.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, after checking around the area of the lake where wardens were told Mr. Tessman was sledding, wardens found fresh tracks that ended at open water. The Maine Warden Service Dive Team was dispatched from their locations throughout the state, and a water search commenced on Tuesday morning.

Twenty-two wardens, including 10 divers and the chaplain, were involved in the search.

On Wednesday, wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour produced unsafe conditions on North Twin Lake and forced the Maine Warden Service to suspend the search until this morning.
