Press ReleasesSeptember 26, 2008 A 50-year-old Lebanon woman who was reported missing on Thursday after she did not return from an ATV ride was found dead this morning in a gravel pit off of River Road in Lebanon. Linda LaPointe, of 310 North Rochester Road in Lebanon, was located at approximately 8:20 a.m. today (Friday) by Allen Wellwood, a gravel pit worker from Lebanon. According to Maine Warden Service Sgt. Timothy Place, Ms. LaPointe rode off of a 15-foot bank into the gravel pit. The fall caused the ATV to flip upside down and it landed on top of her. Ms. LaPointe was reported missing at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. The Maine Warden Service was contacted at approximately 6:30 p.m. Thursday and searched until 2:30 a.m. today (Friday) before suspending its efforts for the night. The MWS search resumed at 6 a.m. today. Assisting the Maine Warden Service in its search were Dartmouth Hitchcock Helicopter of Lebanon, N.H., which used a flare unit to search in the darkness, Lebanon Fire, Lebanon Rescue, York County Search and Rescue, Milton Fire Department, and Steve Hardy and Rick Davis from the Emergency Management Agency. |
