2009 Moose Permit Lottery is this Thursday at UMFK

EVENT: 2009 Moose Permit Lottery: “Is this YOUR year?!”

Thursday, June 18, 2009.

TIME: Doors open at 2 p.m.; Event begins at 6 p.m.

LOCATION: University of Maine at Fort Kent Sports Center

PERMITS: This year, 3,015 permits will be given. About 57,000 people applied for the lottery.

PURPOSE: This is the 29th Annual Moose Permit Lottery. Since 1999, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and its Moose Permit Lottery has been the guest of fish and game clubs, businesses and schools throughout Maine that have played host to this much-anticipated annual event.

This is the first year the event is in the St. John Valley, and like any other event, the community is well prepared. The University of Maine at Fort Kent is host, and businesses, community leaders, Chambers of commerce, and town governments have been enthusiastically working for months to put together a fun-filled gathering.

EVENT: More than 40 exhibitors, food and children’s activities, as well as plenty of outdoors enthusiasts will be on hand to swap stories, give pointers and wait to hear if their name is drawn.

IF&W Commissioner Roland “Danny” Martin, UMFK President Richard Cost, IF&W Deputy Commissioner Paul F. Jacques, Sen. Troy Jackson, Rep. John Martin, Maine Warden Service Col. Joel Wilkinson, Game Wardens, IF&W biologists and others are expected to attend.
