Sidney Man Hit By Pellets While Bird Hunting

Augusta, Maine - Don Hipkins, 42, was treated and released from a Waterville hospital late this afternoon after being hit by pellets while partridge hunting at approximately 2:30 today (Saturday, October 17) in Sydney.

Mr. Hipkins was hunting with Ed Gleason, 42, also of Sydney. Mr. Gleason fired at a partridge that was in heavy cover and the shot deflected, coming back in their direction and hitting Mr. Hipkins, according to Maine Warden Service Game Warden Steve Couture.

Mr. Hipkins was hit by six pellets in his arm, finger and stomach, and his injuries are non-life threatening. He was transported to Thayer Hospital in Waterville where he was treated and released.

The incident is under investigation. MWS Sgt. Mark Warren and Game Warden Couture are investigating.
