12 Year Old In Good Condition After Accidentally Shooting Himself In The Foot

Augusta, Maine - Saturday, October 22 was Maine’s annual Youth Deer Hunting Day.  The Maine Warden Service received a call at 3:15 PM on Saturday afternoon that a twelve year old boy had accidentally shot himself in the foot while deer hunting with his uncle in Waterboro.  The youth, awake and alert, told wardens that he was resting the barrel of a 243 rifle on his foot and was playing with the safety when the gun fired.  He suffered a gunshot to his right foot.  The youth was hunting with Chad Whitehouse, age 34.  The youth was taken by ATV out of the woods and to an ambulance where he was transported to a hospital (name unknown).

Assisting at the scene were Warden Sgt. Tim Spahr and Wardens Peter Herring, Seth Power and Rick LaFlamme.

The youth is listed in good condition; his name is not being released due to his age.
