Semipalmated Plover
Mud flats
Where you may see only wet, sticky mud, shorebirds see thousands of invertebrates to eat. Semipalmated Plovers need to eat all they can during low tide when mudflats are available. They store this food as fat and use it to fly nonstop over the Atlantic Ocean to intering areas in South America.
