Maine InfoNet Original Contract Signed - 1999

A contract was signed July 27, 1999 that will  implement large portions of the Maine InfoNet  project approved by Maine voters in a June, 1996  referendum.  The agreement between the Maine State  Library and Innovative Interfaces Inc. specifies  software and services that will create:

  • A statewide combined library catalog that will be  updated in real-time, reflect the holdings of hundreds  of Maine libraries, and incorporate requesting and  load-balancing features to support improved  interlibrary lending and borrowing arrangements.
  • The Full Management System, a shared integrated  library system offering circulation, cataloging, public  access catalog, acquisitions and serials functions.  The  Innovative Millennium software is licensed by the  project and the hardware it runs on is purchased by  the project.  Local participating libraries, from Year 2  onward, pay ongoing costs of the FMS.
  • The Holdings Database, a collection of the holdings of  libraries not using the Full Management System or some  other Innovative system in Maine.  Records may be  contributed in batches in a variety of ways.
  • An upgraded URSUS system.

Schedule

The contract specifies a detailed schedule of implementation  steps whose timing is expressed in days subsequent to  contract signing.  Some of the high points:
  • Day 90  Submit completed Profile sheets for libraries to  be loaded onto Full Management System
  • Day 150  Profile database and requesting system  parameters for statewide union catalog
  • Day 150  Install software on Full Management System  server
  • Day 210 Install software on statewide union catalog server
  • Day 220 Implementation of link between URSUS, FMS and  the statewide union catalog
  • Day 300 Install software on Holdings Database server
In addition, Innovative has made a commitment to get four  libraries with unique local system problems (Curtis Memorial  Library, Belfast Free Library, Parrot Health Science Library at  Eastern Maine Medical Center, and Patten Free Library in  Bath) up and running on the Full Management System a bit  ahead of this schedule.

Training in conjunction with various product components  will be scheduled through mutual agreement between the  Maine State Library and Innovative.

The Maine State Library has already begun work on data  analysis and profiling steps associated with these four  libraries.  In September it will begin the substantial  preparatory work associated with preparing to bring the  other Full Management System libraries into the system in  the first months of 2000.
