Maine Memory Network presentation:

Guests Richard D’Abate and Steve Bromage from the Maine Historical Society made a presentation to the Board on how the Maine Memory Network was developed, current projects, e.g. The Maine Community Heritage Project, and future plans. Maine Memory Network has 300,000 unique visitors annually. Federal funds, especially IMLS grants, have been the primary funding source. State funds have been more limited. Maine Memory Network was the first umbrella collaborative historical online project nationally.

Logical partnership between Maine Memory Network and libraries in general. David, James, Steve Podgajny, Richard and Steve Bromage will work on a proposal for developing a formal partnership for our next Board meeting.

Minutes:

On a motion made by Joyce and seconded by Barbara, the minutes of the October 28, 2009 were unanimously approved as amended.

Staffing update:

Venice Bayrd begins in early January. Position vacated by Tim Pellet’s resignation has been re-named Library Support Specialist. This professional position does not require an MLS. It will be advertised shortly. Fall intern will continue into the spring semester with slightly less hours.

501 c3 Update:

MLA has agreed to provide $1,000 toward cost of the application process. We need to contact Attorney Pratt with our intention to hire him. Need to formally inform the lawyer for the University of Maine System of our intentions to move forward on applying for 501 c3 status.

Collection Development:

Clem and Joyce are working on an IMLS grant application for funding to support the collaborative collection development work statewide begun at the Summit last June.

Board vacancy for hospital representative:

HSLIC has approved Janet Bolduc, Central  Maine Medical Center, to replace Cora Damon as their representative.

Executive Director:

Office expansion into the adjacent unit has been approved and will begin shortly.

Future agenda items:

  • Need to address the role of SOLAR.
  • Inn-REACH settle up issues.

Adjourned at 3:35pm.

Respectfully submitted,
