Minutes

Joyce made a motion, seconded by Barbara, to approve the minutes of the April meeting, as amended. All voted

MIN Website

The contract with Rainstorm Consulting has been completed. Initial meeting will be held in early May to discuss site architecture and site-map.

SOLAR

Interest has been expressed by 22 libraries, mostly public libraries, a few schools, and a few special libraries. To date, four applications have been received, but one would like to be considered for a later round. Applications will be reviewed after the June 4 deadline. Rich and Joyce will work with James to score and rank applications.

Library Commission Sub-Committee

Need to determine if the assumptions we have about what libraries want out of a statewide catalog are accurate. Prior to the next Commission meeting, the sub-committee will meet with the three consultants to craft a survey to get input, especially from those libraries that have little understanding of what services are even available to the library community, on what libraries would most value from participation in a statewide catalog.

IMLS Grant Update

Progress is slower than hoped because reclamation process took longer than anticipated. Currently working on establishing collection analysis. National Advisory Board will be presenting at the Maine Libraries Conference on May 21 at 9:30am.

MIN Presence at Maine Libraries United Conference

Not enough time before conference to plan a formal presence but we should be thinking about preparing some kind of information to disseminate, especially once the new website is launched. James suggested that discussing the message we want to deliver be an agenda item for the retreat.

Executive Director Report

Maine InfoNet Collaborative is now a 501(c)3, non-profit, charitable organization.

Minerva Full-User Council will meet on May 30, 10:00 - 12:00, at Central Maine Community College in Auburn.

James will be presenting on the evolving vision of MaineCat this month at the Maine Library Commission, at Larger Libraries meeting, and Maine Libraries United Conference. He recently attended ICOLC in Denver.

Representatives from OCLC with be coming on June 12, to talk about what we envision and how WMS may figure into the future of our systems.

MIN Retreat

Date has been changed to July 2, 9:00am - 4:00pm, at Colby College, Waterville.
Suggested the following items be discussed:

  1. Review FY12 Strategic Priorities
  2. Governance - By-Laws - role of the Board
  3. Marketing - Steve suggested that we have an outside person facilitate that conversation, perhaps someone from the University. Pauline also suggested that we might want to look at the survey.
  4. Combined budget report
  5. Role of Maine InfoNet vs. Maine Library Commission vs. Maine Regional Library System consultants.
  6. III Contracts - immediate and long-term

Meeting adjourned at 3:30pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Elizabeth Crawford Reisz, Recording Secretary
