The Maine House of Representatives consists of 151 members (88 Democrats, 57 Republicans, two Independents, two Unenrolled members, and vacancies in House District 7 and House District 149), plus three nonvoting members representing the Penobscot Nation, the Passamaquoddy Tribe and the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians. Each House member represents a district which had approximately 8,443 people as of the 2000 census. The size of an average district will increase to 8,797 people in the 127th Legislature, based on the 2010 census.
