Rep. Kimberley Rosen Named to National Transportation Committee

AUGUSTA – State Rep. Kimberley Rosen has been appointed to a panel on transportation at the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). The appointment, made by Maine House Speaker Hannah Pingree, will bring Rep. Rosen into contact with state legislators from around the nation to share approaches and solutions to transportation issues.

Rep. Rosen (R-Bucksport) will join the NCSL’s Standing Committee on Transportation. “I’m honored by this appointment and by the opportunity to represent Maine at the national level,” she said. “Sharing information with legislators from other states can be very constructive in dealing with problems here in Maine. The best ideas don’t always come from the federal government. I think the most innovative solutions often come from the states.”

Rep. Rosen, a third-term lawmaker, is a member of the Legislature’s Transportation Committee, which deals with a wide range of issues, including the Department of Transportation; Bureau of Motor Vehicles; motor vehicle registration and license plates; and driver’s licenses. The committee also oversees the Maine Turnpike Authority; the Highway Fund; transportation policy; aeronautics; highway and bridge construction and maintenance; highway safety; waterways; railroads; and motor vehicles.

At the NCSL, the Transportation Committee develops policy positions on state-federal transportation issues to be used in lobbying Congress and the federal administration. The committee also serves as a forum for legislators and staff to share ideas and expertise on an array of transportation issues. The members deal with such issues as freight mobility; aviation; commercial vehicle safety; highways; public transportation; transportation funding; waterways; and ports.

The NCSL, based in Denver and Washington, D.C., is a bipartisan organization that advocates for the interests of state governments before Congress and federal agencies.
