Rep. Innes
Rep. Melissa Walsh Innes is serving her second term in the Maine House
of Representatives and is a member of the Legislature’s Joint Standing
Committee on Environment and Natural Resources.
A lifelong Mainer from the Yarmouth area, Rep. Innes graduated
from the University of Southern Maine, earning her degree in Social
Work, and since then has worked to support Maine citizens with
mental illness, Alzheimer's Disease, developmental disabilities,
and special education supports in the school system. Rep. Innes
has also owned a professional organizing business.
Locally, Rep. Innes has been a leader on energy conservation issues
as the past Chair of the Yarmouth Energy Savers Committee, which
has worked to cut costs and energy usage of municipal and residential
buildings.
In her work as a Maine legislator, Rep. Innes has focused on the
policy area of recycling, specifically product stewardship. She
works with legislators across the US, Canada, and most recently,
Australia, in her work to forward the policy approach to save taxpayer
money and improve our environment.
Rep. Innes, along with her husband Shawn Walsh (current UMaine
Law student) and three daughters, attends the First Universalist
Church of Yarmouth.
