Rep. Sutherland
Rep. Patricia Sutherland is serving her second term in the Maine
Legislature. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from
Saint Joseph’s College and taught high school English. Sutherland
recently retired after more than 20 years as the director of development
and community relations at Northern Maine Community College in
Presque Isle.
Sutherland is very involved with Aroostook County’s economic
development initiatives, such as the empowerment zone. She chairs
the Northern Maine Empowerment Council and is on the boards of
the Northern Maine Development Commission and LEAD. She is also
a member of the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club and is on Chapman’s
board of selectmen.
Sutherland is House chair of the Education and Cultural Affairs
Committee. Her legislative priorities are business retention and
growth, higher education and support for natural resource based
industries.
