Rep. Hayes
Rep. Terry Hayes is serving her third term in the House
of Representatives and her first term as Assistant House Democratic Leader.
She serves on the Joint Select Committee on Joint Rules and served on the
Joint Standing Committee on State and Local Government in the 123rd and
124th Legislatures.
Born and raised in the greater Portland area, Rep. Hayes graduated from
Catherine McAuley High School in 1976. She earned a bachelor's degree in
Government from Bowdoin College in 1980.
Rep. Hayes served on the MSAD 39 School Board for thirteen years (1991 – 2004),
including three years as the Chair. For the past eight years she has moderated
annual town meetings in Buckfield, Hartford, and Sumner.
Professionally, Rep. Hayes works as a guardian ad litem in Maine’s
District and Probate Courts. She owns and operates Hayes & Associates,
headquartered in Buckfield, which provides peer supervision and business
support services for other guardians ad litem. For the past 25 years her
GAL works has focused on advocating for children whose parents are litigating
custody in divorce, post divorce, and family matter cases.
Rep. Hayes serves on the Advisory Committee for the Court Appointed Special
Advocates (CASA) Program; on the Advisory Board for Healthy Oxford Hills;
on the Board of the Maine Guardian ad Litem Institute; on the Buckfield
Energy Team; and on the Buckfield Town Budget Committee.
Terry and her husband Steve live in Buckfield. They have three adult children.
