Maine Line-Item Veto Legislation Updated through the 130th Legislature Introduction In 1995, Maine voters approved a constitutional amendment to establish the line-item veto (Maine Constitution Article IV, Part Third, §2-A). A limited form of veto, this mechanism allows the governor to reduce specific appropriations or allocations in legislation. This legislative history includes attempts to enact a line-item veto since 1907. It also covers any proposed amendments to Article IV, Part Third, §2-A; however, no attempts to amend it have been proposed since its enactment in 1995.
