Luther S. Moore

Born in Newfield, Maine in August of 1821, Luther Moore had the advantage of a first-class education.

A graduate of Limerick Academy and Harvard Law School he studied under both Simon Greenleaf and Joseph Story.

Admitted to the bar in 1845 he was associated with future Supreme Court Justice, Nathan Clifford.

Moore practiced law in Limerick for the remainder of his life and maintained a large farm there as well.

He represented Limerick in the Maine House in 1858 and in the Senate in 1853 and 1854, being President in the latter year.

Interested in education he was President of the Board of Trustees of Limerick Academy and a member of the Board of Trustees of the new State College at Orono.

He died in 1892 at the age of seventy-one.
