Joseph B. Campbell

When the Republican Party regained control of the Maine Senate in 1967, the man who was chosen Senate President was Joseph Bradburn Campbell.

Campbell was born in Denver, Colorado on March 21, 1908. Graduating from Colby College and Georgetown University Law School, Campbell began his career as a lawyer before enlisting in the Army Air Force in 1942.

Leaving the service as a Major in 1945, Campbell was County Attorney for Kennebec in 1953 to 1954 and served as Municipal Court Judge in Hallowell from 1949 to 1953.

Elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 1949, Campbell resigned before the Special Session.

Elected to the Maine Senate for the 1963-1964 term and again in 1967-1968, he served for the latter two years as Senate President.
