Frenchboro is a plantation in Hancock County, once incorporated as a town on February 11, 1857 under the name Islandport. The town is made up of twelve small islands located off Mount Desert Island with the village of Frenchboro, Outer Long Island, Maine located 8 miles off shore. The community consists of about 70 year round residents.
The island is served by the Maine State Ferry Service's vehicle ferry, Captain Henry Lee , three days a week, and a passenger only ferry, R.L. Gott , one day a week April through November.
Public buildings on the island include the K-8 school, with 14 students enrolled for 2009-2010, library, historical society museum, church, and community building.
