Town of Chelsea
Chelsea is a town in Kennebec County, incorporated on March 1, 1851 from a portion of Hallowell. It set off land to Pittston in 1855.
In 1867 and again in 1801, Chelsea ceded land to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers from the Civil War, which eventually became the Togus Veterans Hospital, known generally as Togus.
Part of the greater Augusta area, the town occupies the east bank of the Kennebec River.
