Town of China
China, a town in Kennebec County, incorporated on February 5, 1818 from parts of the towns of Harlem, Fairfax (now Albion), and Winslow. Harlem was created from the former Jones Plantation in 1796 and later annexed by China in 1822. In 1829 China ceded land to Vassalboro.
China Lake, around which Quakers and Baptists settled in the early 19th century, dominates the community and its history as a recreational center.
