County of Knox
Knox County, incorporated in 1860, is the last county incorporated in the State of Maine. Knox County is in mid-coast Maine with Rockland as its county seat, and includes the town of Camden, a popular summer destination.
The dramatic combination of mountains and rocky coast, islands, lighthouses, inland hills and blueberry fields, provides a beautiful setting and many recreational opportunities.
Shipbuilding, lime processing, granite quarrying, commercial fishing and lobstering have all figured in Rockland’s industrial past. This area of the coast is famous for its lobsters.
Knox County hosts a Lobster Festival and the North Atlantic Blues Festival each summer.
