Configuring MDOT MX
Instructions
for setup of MDOT MX customization files May, 2004
Maine DOT uses a custom update program to install each of these
files in
their proper place. However, our custom program is written specifically
for our network, server, and file structure, and would not work
in other
locations. Therefore, we have provided this file to tell you how
to
install the contents of each of the zip files in this folder.
Due to the fact that we supported only metric units for a time before
"switching back" to feet (imperial in MX terminology),
some of the metric
files are named with a prefix "MDOT_" while the corresponding
files for
imperial are named with a prefix "imperial_".
AddIns.zip
The contents of this zip file should be extracted to your MX exec
folder, which is normally C:\Program Files\mfw\exec\.
imperial_macros.zip
Create a folder C:\mdot\imperial_macros\ (if it does not already
exist)
and extract the contents of this zip file to that location.
imperial_psu_files_zip
Extract the contents of this zip file to the us_imperial_styles
folder,
which is normally C:\Program Files\mfw\us_imperial_styles\.
imperial_styles.zip
Create a folder C:\mdot\imperial_styles\ (if it does not already
exist)
and extract the contents of this zip file to that location.
MDOT_macro.zip
Create a folder C:\mdot\mdot_macro\ (if it does not already exist)
and extract the contents of this zip file to that location.
MDOT_styles.zip
Create a folder C:\mdot\mdot_styles\ (if it does not already exist)
and extract the contents of this zip file to that location.
metric_psu_files.zip
Extract the contents of this zip file to the US_styles folder,
which is normally C:\Program Files\mfw\US__styles\.
MXChangeFiles.zip
This zip file contains subfolders. Extract it to the MXChangeinMstn
folder, which is normally C:\Program Files\mfw\MXChangeinMstn\.
If you do not use MX Change, we would still suggest creating this
folder and placing the files there at first. Most, if not all, of
them should also work with MFM (MX in MicroStation), but you should
review and test as you move them to the corresponding locations
under C:\Program Files\mfw\mfm\.
Note that we are resetting MicroStation path variables in our
launchmxc.vba macro to direct MX Change to the appropriate Data
and
Seed folders for the units and scales selected. In our setup,
the files for these variations keep the same names and the user
only
has to pick the appropriate units and scale when launching MX Change
(via the macro). You may wish to develop your own method for making
these adjustments.
mx_input_files.zip
This zip file has IMPERIAL and METRIC subfolders. Create a subfolder
named \mx_input_files\ under the folder where you set your projects
up. Extract this file to that subfolder. In our case, it is usually
D:\PIN\mx_input_files\.
OtherCustomFiles.zip
This zip file contains an assortment of customized files that go
to
different locations. See the file ReadMe_OtherCustomFiles.txt for
detailed instructions.
ParameterFiles.zip
It is recommended that you back up your existing parameter files
before extracting these to C:\Program Files\mfw\Parameters. If you
are a consultant that runs different MX configurations for different
clients (such as MDOT and NHDOT) you may want to "swap"
parameter
file sets when changing from one configuration to another.
