MAINEDOT TO WORK ON TRAFFIC EQUIPMENT ON ROUTE 3, SOUTH CHINA
On Tuesday, May 20th, Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) traffic engineering crews will be installing traffic-count loops on Route 3 in South China. This work will involve temporarily closing the westbound travel lane, and once that work is completed, closing the eastbound travel lane to perform similar work.
The Route 3 project is located three-quarters of a mile west of the intersection with the Alder Park Road, which is approximately 100 feet before the entrance to the China Regional Church of the Nazarene in South China. The MaineDOT crews will install traffic-count loops in the pavement, replacing old equipment that is no longer functioning properly. The new sensors will allow the department to accurately count the number of vehicles that use the highway throughout the year.
While project and the lane closures are in progress, flaggers will establish alternating one-way traffic. Speed limits will be reduced, and drivers are urged to use special caution when approaching and passing through the project area. MaineDOT officials expect that the work will be completed in one day, weather permitting. In case of unfavorable weather, the work will be rescheduled for Wednesday, May 21st.
