MAINEDOT TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING

REGARDING DOUGHTY BRIDGE IN CUMBERLAND

The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) has begun developing preliminary engineering plans for the future replacement of Doughty Bridge in Cumberland.  The bridge carries Routes 26 and 100 over the Piscatiqua River about one-half mile north of the Falmouth-Cumberland town line.

Before proceeding further with development of the project, MaineDOT wants to share the work it’s done so far and gather input from area residents and business or others with an interest in the project.

MaineDOT representatives will be in the Council Chambers of the Cumberland Town Office on Tuesday, August 28th at 7:00PM to answer questions about the proposed project and to listen to local concerns and issues.  The Department is particularly interested in hearing how the project may relate to local comprehensive plans.

If development of the project proceeds as expected, construction is tentatively scheduled for the summer of 2008.  Current plans call for closing Route 26/100 to all traffic for up to fourteen days during construction with traffic temporarily diverted onto Blackstrap Road.

Anyone with an interest in the project is invited to attend and participate in the meeting.
