Exit 4 reopens to traffic

The Exit 4 on-ramp on I-295 Southbound is now open, and travelers can access I-295 Southbound from Veterans Memorial Bridge. Crews have also finished the installation and striping of the third lane between Exits 3 and 4 on I-295 Southbound, which will relieve traffic congestion and improve safety on this section of I-295.

There will be some limited construction work on this section in the breakdown lane as crews finish guardrail work and erecting a truss for signage, but no lane closures are expected in the immediate future.

This work is part of a $5.3 million upgrade to this section of I-295, which will make the highway safer for motorists by adding an additional lane for entering and exiting the highway, adding a guardrail in the median, and installing a sound wall. The project is expected to continue until the beginning of December.

MaineDOT asks that motorists drive with caution and maintain the reduced speed limit while traveling. Motorists who reduce speed excessively to observe construction activities can cause traffic delays and create safety risks.
