WORK BEGINS MONDAY ON ROUTE 126 IN JEFFERSON;
INCLUDES DETOUR WEEK OF AUGUST 20TH
The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) says work to repair a washed out slope along Route 126 in Jefferson will begin Monday, August 13th, and will include a detour for five days the following week (Aug. 20-24th).
“We need to repair the roadside slope on Route 126 about seven-tenths of a mile east of the intersection of Routes 32 and 126,” explained Cecil Work of MaineDOT’s Region 2. “The work area extends east along Route 126 for about one-tenth of a mile.”
“We’ll be repairing damage to the roadside slope, roadway shoulder and guard rail caused by the failure of a roadside slope along that section of Route 126. The work will include stabilizing the slope, partial reconstruction of the existing roadway, guard rail repairs and paving,” Work said.
“From Monday, August 13th through Friday, August 17th, drivers can expect to encounter alternating one-way traffic through the work area. Then, beginning Monday, August 20th through Friday, August 24th, we’ll be detouring traffic around the work area twenty-four hours a day. While the detour is in place, drivers will still be able to access local destinations from either end of the detour, but no through traffic will be allowed on that section of Route 126,” Work noted.
“Traffic traveling east on Route 126 will be detoured onto the Valley Road and easterly to Route 17. Traffic traveling west on Route 126 will be detoured onto Route 17 and use the Valley Road to rejoin Route 126. We expect to put the detour into place about 6:00AM on Monday, the 20th, and have the road re-opened to traffic by 5:00PM on Friday, the 24th,” he concluded.
