CULVERT WORK IN NEW VINEYARD TO DETOUR ROUTE 234 TRAFFIC
The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) says drivers using Route 234 in New Vineyard should allow some extra travel time beginning Monday, August 6th.
“We’re going to be implementing a detour associated with a culvert-replacement project on Route 234. The work area is located about one-tenth of a mile from the Strong-New Vineyard town line, where Route 234 crosses Porter Lake Stream,” explains Catherine Mettey, MaineDOT’s construction manager for the project.
“Starting Monday, we’ll be implementing a detour onto Routes 27 and 149. That detour will remain in place until August 20th, giving the contractor two weeks to remove the old pipe and install a new, 19-thousand pound structural plate pipe arch, similar to an oversized culvert. Route 234 will remain open to local traffic as far as the work area, but no through traffic will be allowed through the work area itself,” Mettey notes.
“In addition to the pipe replacement, we’ll also be installing roadside guard rail and paving the guard rail areas and roadway,” Mettey continues.
The contract for the project was, awarded to CPM Constructors of Freeport, ME on a bid of almost $155-thousand. Mettey anticipates completion of all work on the project by the end of August.# # #
