NIGHT WORK SET FOR ROUTE 2 IN NORRIDGEWOCK THURSDAY NIGHT
The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) says drivers using U.S. Route 2 in Norridgewock should use extra care and caution for the next several nights
.“We’re going to be milling out old pavement on Thursday night, August 2nd and putting down new pavement on Sunday night, August 5th and possibly Monday night, August 6th,” explains Anne Lowe, MaineDOT’s construction manager for several Skowhegan-Norridgewock area projects. “We’ll be working on just the travel lanes of the highway, so drivers can definitely expect to encounter workers and equipment in the roadway.
”“Drivers should approach downtown Norridgewock with extra care and caution on those nights. The work area will be lighted, but drivers should still be alert for equipment and be especially watchful for signs and flaggers guiding them through the work area,” she continues
.“The downtown Norridgewock work is one of four area projects all covered by the same contract,” Lowe explains. “The Norridgewock work area begins one-tenth of a mile west of the U.S. Route 201A intersection with Route 2 and extends east for six-tenths of a mile. The work includes milling off an inch and one-half of old pavement, shimming the roadway to make it more even, and paving. We’ll also be adjusting water gate valves, manholes and catch basins.
”“Other projects covered by the same project include work on U.S. Route 201 in Solon and Bingham, U.S. Route 2 in Skowhegan and Route 150 in Skowhegan.
Lowe says the contract covering all four projects was awarded to Pike Industries of Lewiston, ME on a bid of more than $1.8-million. It calls for completion of work on all four projects by late October.
