Traffic Reduced To One Lane on Route 219 Bridge in Sumner

The West Sumner Meadow Bridge that carries Route 219 over the Nezinscot River has been reduced to one lane of one-way, alternating traffic so crews can repair the bridge.

Crews are replacing the traveling surface on the bridge, and have closed one lane of the bridge, limiting it to one way, alternating traffic regulated by traffic signs. The traveling surface, or wearing surface, has deteriorated to the point where it is no longer protecting the bridge’s internal support structure and it needs to be replaced to extend the life of the bridge.

If construction proceeds as planned, the bridge repairs should be completed within ten weeks.
