WORK ON MALLISON FALLS BRIDGE IN SOUTH WINDHAM STARTING THIS WEEK

Next week (week of December 17th), Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) bridge maintenance workers will begin a bridge repair project on the Mallison Falls Bridge on the Mallison Falls Road in South Windham. The Mallison Falls Bridge crosses the Presumpscot River, carrying Mallison Falls Road, which connects Route 237 (Mosher Road/Newell Street) with River Road in South Windham.

According to MaineDOT bridge manager Randy Bodge, the repair work on the Mallison Falls Bridge will involve removal of the existing railing and installation of new railing. Other incidental repairs will also be performed. MaineDOT has scheduled this work to occur at a time of year when impacts to traffic are expected to be minimal.

While the project is in progress, MaineDOT plans to keep two lanes open to traffic, though the lanes may be narrowed somewhat.  Motorists are urged to drive with caution and observe all speed limits and signage associated with the project.

MaineDOT bridge maintenance engineers estimate that the repairs will take 12 to 18 weeks to complete, with weather being a contributing factor in the actual completion date.
