Westbrook Street Closure Postponed to April 30th
At Exit 3 Work Site in South Portland

South Portland, ME – The planned closure of Westbrook Street at the site of the overpass construction for the new entrance to I-295 originally scheduled for 10:00pm tonight, April 28 through 6:00am tomorrow morning, April 29 has been cancelled due to forecasted rainfall. The road closure is being rescheduled to take place Wednesday night, April 30, beginning at 10:00pm, with traffic being detoured until approximately 6:00am on Thursday, May 1 – weather permitting.  The overnight closure is necessary to allow steelwork to be hoisted into place.

When the new entrance to I-295 at Exit 3 is completed in mid-2009, improved, safer access to I-295 will be available from East Broadway instead of Westbrook Street. The project is one of several roadway improvements in the Maine Mall Area, including the widening of Western Avenue and the already completed reconstruction of the Payne Road Bridge, improvements to the intersection of Westbrook Street and Western Avenue, improved turning lanes at Maine Mall Road and Gorham Road, and the construction of the Jetport Plaza Road.  Additionally, MaineDOT is improving the intersection of Spring Street and County Road in Westbrook with the addition of turning lanes in all directions.

Information on these and other MaineDOT construction projects is available online at www.mainedot.gov http://www.mainedot.gov .  Drivers may sign up for email alerts, and read updated construction schedules.
