MAINE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

 

Description of State Maintenance Boundary Lines established for

delimiting the urban area of

 

Portland, Cumberland County, Maine

 

Portland

 

Beginning at the Portland-Falmouth Town Line in Portland Harbor; thence, southeasterly in Portland Harbor to Diamond Island Roads; thence, northeasterly via the channel between the Diamond Islands and Peaks Island to a point due west of the north end of Island Avenue at the junction of an unnamed private drive (Inventory #15) on Peaks Island; thence, due east to said junction; thence, southerly to the junction of Pleasant Avenue and Brook Lane; thence, southerly to Prince Street at an abandoned road; thence, southwesterly to Seashore Avenue at the junction of an unnamed road (Inventory Road #3425); thence, southwesterly to Sargent Road at a culvert 0.08 mile from Pleasant Avenue; thence, southerly to Central Avenue at the entrance to a cemetery; thence, southeasterly to “A” Street, east section, at the old military reservation boundary; thence, southwesterly to the junction of Brackett Avenue and Field Road 0.27 mile east of Island Avenue; thence, due east to a point due north of Seashore Avenue at the entrance to city dump; thence, due south through Seashore Avenue at said entrance into the waters of White Head Passage south of Peaks Island; thence, westerly to Fort Scammel Point Light on House Island; thence, southerly to Portland/Cape Elizabeth Town Line in line with Portland Head Light; thence westerly via Portland/Cape Elizabeth Town Line to the junction of Portland/South Portland Town Line; thence northerly via Westbrook/Portland Town Line to the junction of Falmouth/Westbrook/Portland Town Line; thence easterly along Portland/Falmouth Town Line to the point of beginning.

NOTE: Bridges, if any, bisected by the State Maintenance Line are in the rural area.
